What is Educational Technology?

Image
Educational technology has been around for quite some time now. Ed-tech has been assisting many teachers and learners with various concepts. Some of the tools used in learning consist of computers, tablets, phones, the latest VR (virtual reality) trend, and other technologies. In other words, ed tech is using digital tools and resources that support or assist already existing curriculums. This creates a new way for learners to express their understanding rather than the traditional paper and pencil method (J. Lathan, 2022).  fad1986. (2018). Benefits of Educational Technology

Image
Many positive aspects include worker training, an example would be a pilot being put in a plane simulator to test the knowledge and skills of a pilot before giving them the responsibility of hundreds of lives. Even video games are said to be improving the knowledge of a learner as many games nowadays require memory skills to be tested and improved (A. Collins* & R. Halverson†, 2010).  One key benefit of ed-tech is remote learning. During COVID-19 the world has seen just how quickly things can go sideways, really fast. Not only in education, but in the work world as well. So many businesses, organizations and individuals had to resort to working and studying from home. None of this would have been possible without the use of technology, to be more precise, educational technology (L, Stelianto, et al., 2020). Ferguson, S. (2020). HOW TO SUCCEED AS AN ONLINE STUDENT. Negative Aspects of Educational Technology

Image
Even though ed tech has proven that there are many benefits, this topic also comes with negative aspects. The key aspects that showed many flaws in educational technology arose during the COVID-19 pandemic.  During COVID-19 many students and educators had to resort to online learning since the disease forced physical learning such as classrooms to close for the time being.  One major disadvantage online learning brings is the use of Wi-Fi, meaning that without Wi-Fi, many learners and educators are not able to access the learning environment and will without a doubt fall behind. So, if the home does not have adequate Wi-Fi that can support online learning, such as zoom meetings, Microsoft teams, and other online meeting platforms, learners will not be able to successfully complete tasks that would otherwise be finished in a physical classroom (L, Stelianto, et al., 2020). veronchick_84.
